Sr Genetics Counselor
About the position This is a full-time research genetic counselor position. This position will support the Genomic Answer for Kids project and potentially other genomic studies within the Children's Mercy Research Institute. Specific responsibilities include overseeing the research genetic counselor assistants, communicating with families/patients enrolled in research studies, providing in-person and telehealth genetic counseling related to research studies, working with marketing to create newsletters and updates, presenting to providers and community groups on various research projects, submitting manuscripts/abstracts, supporting research center staff including variant analysts, principal investigators, and laboratory staff with research genetic testing process, tracking and routing samples for research genetic testing, communicating with providers about research study processes and results, medical record review and curation of phenotypes. Responsibilities • Provides quality inpatient and outpatient clinical care for patients in Clinical Genetics and fifteen subspecialty clinics (FHC, Cardio, Cleft Palate, Craniofacial, etc). • Serves as a clinical resource for the education and consultation needs of the health care team, community care providers, student learners, family advocacy groups and peer organizations. • Utilizes evidence-based practice principles and participates in performance improvement activities. • Utilizes expertise to control costs facilitating good stewardship of fiscal resources. • Participates in scholarly activities that contribute to the body of knowledge surrounding Genetic Medicine.
