Key Responsibilities:
Assist teachers in planning, preparation, and implementation of individualized student objectives and goals, with a focus on self-sufficiency and educational success
Provide support in special needs areas, including wheelchair transfers, toileting, and behavior management
Document student progress, medication administration, and medical interventions
Shadow and support students in mainstream and community environments
Participate in total school functions and activities, including cafeteria and playground supervision
Implement specific therapy exercises under the direction of a licensed therapist
Requirements:
Associate's degree or 60 semester hours of coursework from an accredited institution of higher education, or pass a formal state assessment (Parapro test paid for and administered by the district)
Additional training in child psychology, classroom management, special education needs, or related areas of study (desired)
General clerical experience and proficiency in computer programs, including Microsoft Excel and Word
First aid and CPR training required
Excellent communication and human relation skills, with the ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, parents, and community members
