Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Special Education Aide to support our students with social communications and medical needs at J.F. Dulles Elementary School. As a Special Education Aide - Social Communications/MD, you will work closely with our teachers, therapists, and other support staff to provide individualized support to students with diverse needs. Your role will involve assisting students with daily living activities, behavior management, instructional support, and social skills training, among other responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Provide support services to students with social communications and medical needs, including assistance with daily living activities, behavior management, and instructional support. Work effectively with minimal supervision to facilitate the delivery of program services and support student learning. Assist students with disabilities participate in appropriate classroom activities and learning experiences. Implement behavior management plans and strategies to support student behavior and well-being. Facilitate student mobility and assist with the use of assistive and/or augmentative devices. Provide personal care and support to students as needed, including catheterization, changing clothing, diapering, and toileting. Maintain a safe and healthy environment for students, including adherence to standard hygiene and sanitation procedures. Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and support student learning. Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge. Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications: 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours of college credit or proof of successful completion of the ParaProfessional Assessment. Valid state department of education license or permit as determined at the time of appointment. Behavioral management skills substantiated by training or work experience. Ability to work with students with diverse needs, including those with social communications and medical needs. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience working with students with special needs, including those with social communications and medical needs. Knowledge of assistive technology and augmentative devices. Training in crisis intervention and behavior management. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
