Job Overview

As a Zero Waste Specialist with APTIM, you will be responsible to support our waste minimization team for public and private sector clients. You will be working on solid waste related issues including zero waste, waste minimization, sustainable materials management, organic waste diversion, and recycling.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
• Perform material sorting services/evaluations to assist clients identify contamination and waste reduction, recycling and/or organic diversion opportunities.
• Provide technical assistance via in-person and virtual to support client diversion needs and/or mandates.
• Conduct in-person waste audits/sorts related to City of San Francisco ordinances and/or state mandates.
• Support relationships with regulatory entities and the City's hauler.
• Stay up to date on emerging solid waste related regulations.
• Perform data entry using APTIM's mobile waste data collection tool.
• Perform quality assurance/quality control (QAQC) of client data including the use of spreadsheets and databases

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in sustainability, environmental policy, environmental studies, climate science, comprehensive planning, or related field is preferred.
• Must have at least 3+ years of experience being a Sustainability Waste Specialist
• Perform material sorting services/evaluations to assist clients identify contamination and waste reduction, recycling and/or organic diversion opportunities.
• Provide technical assistance via in-person and virtual to support client diversion needs and/or mandates.
• Conduct in-person waste audits/sorts related to City of San Francisco ordinances and/or state mandates.
• Support relationships with regulatory entities and the City's hauler.
• Stay up to date on emerging solid waste related regulations.
• Perform data entry using APTIM's mobile waste data collection tool.
• Perform quality assurance/quality control (QAQC) of client data including the use of spreadsheets and databases.
• Knowledge and experience on solid waste, recycling, zero waste, circular economy, plastics and packaging, and waste minimization strategies, etc. occurring in states across the U.S. and at the national level.
• Fieldwork experience performing waste evaluations and audits.
• The ability to present ideas effectively and deliver presentations suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience.
• Experience in several of the following areas:
• Solid waste management, recycling, zero waste, and circular economy
• Sustainable materials management
• Plastics and packaging
• Lifecycle assessments
• Knowledge of environmental education and/or resource management.
• Uses time effectively; anticipates obstacles, adjusts priorities as needs change and keeps others informed of progress.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, and be adaptable in a fast paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong written and oral communication.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.

Other Essential Job Fuctions

• Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.
• Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

The targeted salary for this position is $85,000 per year.
