Solar Project Manager (Technical)

Remote Full-time
The Role

RE-volv is hiring an experienced technical solar professional to help develop and manage our nonprofit solar installations. In this role, you will coordinate sales, finance, operations and project management. You will be responsible for validating installer bids for small nonprofit commercial projects (30kW to 500kW), building accurate Energy Toolbase models, and managing a pipeline of projects from contract signature to Permission to Operate (PTO).

We are looking for a Solar Project Manager with at least 4–6 years of experience who can analyze project designs, spot technical red flags, manage installation timelines, and ensure our projects deliver the savings we promise our nonprofit clients.
About RE-volv

RE-volv is a leading clean energy access nonprofit that develops and finances solar plus storage projects for community-based nonprofit organizations across the country. To date, RE-volv has financed over $20 million of nonprofit solar projects across 20 states, helping our clients save over $40 million on their electricity bills. We work closely with a national network of local installers to execute high-quality installations and provide hands-on project management from contract to PTO. As experts in the Inflation Reduction Act’s Solar ITC Direct Pay provision, we specialize in helping tax-exempt organizations monetize federal incentives to maximize their savings.
Position Details

This is a full-time position, working 3 days a week from our San Francisco office. (Remote candidates will also be considered.) Compensation includes an annual salary commensurate with experience, benefits, and generous paid time off. RE-volv provides the last Friday of every month off for personal care, which we call RE-charge Days. RE-volv is committed to supporting a good work-life balance. Position starts as soon as possible.
Key Responsibilities
• Proposal Generation & Technical Vetting (40%)
• Bid and Contract Review: Review installer quotes to ensure equipment is Tier 1, production estimates are accurate, and costs are appropriate. Compare bids to identify the best installers and proposals for our nonprofit clients. Ensure accurate contract details and timely execution of installer and financing agreements.
• Incentive Optimization: Ensure proposals are accurately leveraging available incentives such as the ITC, RECs and any local government or utility programs. Outline project requirements to ensure successful monetization of incentives.
• ETB Modeling: Create and refine customized customer-facing solar and storage proposals using Energy Toolbase (ETB). Ensure utility rates, export values, and savings projections are accurate. Create custom ETB transactions and update proposal templates as needed.
• Approved Lists: Create and maintain RE-volv’s Approved Vendor and Equipment lists, ensuring we only work with vetted partners and top-tier equipment. Support outreach to new installers and vet them to ensure they meet our quality standards.
• Salesforce Data: Ensure real-time accuracy of project data in Salesforce. You will be responsible for logging bid details, updating proposal versions, and maintaining clean data.
• Project Management & Construction Oversight (50%)
• Remote Construction Management: Work with the Director of Solar Operations to oversee solar and storage installations. You will track project milestones and collect required documentation (photos, permits, lien releases), support payment disbursements, and ensure the project schedule is met. Act as the primary point of contact for installers during the build phase.
• Pipeline Velocity: Proactively manage project stages in Salesforce. Identify potential delays and work with installers and AHJs to troubleshoot, ensuring timely installations.
• Documentation: Ensure all project files, from contracts to plan sets, are correctly organized and stored.
• Compliance & Operations Support (10%)
• FEOC/PFE & Policy: Stay informed on industry requirements, specifically Foreign Entity of Concern (FEOC) and Prohibited Foreign Entity (PFE) rules, to ensure our equipment procurement remains compliant for tax credit purposes.
• Safe Harbor: Support the solar team in tracking and documenting equipment for Safe Harbor provisions to maximize tax benefits.
• Process Improvement: Assist the solar team in refining checklists and workflows to make our sales, vetting, and construction processes more streamlined and efficient.
Skills and Qualifications

Experience: 4–6 years of relevant experience in the solar and storage industry (Project Management, Sales Engineering, or Solar Operations).

Technical Capacity
• Proficiency in Energy Toolbase (ETB) is required.
• Understanding of small commercial solar, storage, and microgrid systems (30kW to 500kW+), including sizing, design, equipment specs, and construction management and best practices.
• Proven track record of managing a national network of third-party installers, including construction oversight across multiple states and remote Quality Assurance (QA).
• Demonstrated track record providing technical analysis of solar contracts and solar plan sets.
• Required: Technical experience overseeing microgrid construction and sizing systems for resilience hub purposes.
• Preferred: Experience with energy audits, energy efficiency upgrades, building decarbonization, heat pumps, and EV charging infrastructure.

Other Key Skills
• Project Management: Experience managing multiple external stakeholders and timelines. Proficiency with Salesforce or similar CRMs is required.
• Solutions-First Mindset: Project velocity and customer experience are your key objectives. You work to identify potential issues early and you proactively propose solutions and process improvements to resolve them.
• Relational skills: You are comfortable communicating technical ideas to non-technical audiences including our customers and partners. You are able to build strong working relationships with installation partners.
• Clear and Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to hold installers accountable to schedules and navigate difficult conversations without compromising professional relationships.
• Team-Player Mentality: Willingness to support ad-hoc tasks and assist colleagues across departments to support our nonprofit mission.
