Responsibilities Manage and lead distributed teams across North America and Europe. Work with technical leads to assign work, track completion, and equip the team with clear specs, direction, and resources. Provide technical expertise, lead technical discovery and trade-off analysis, and set engineering standards and best practices. Partner with product, sales, and customer success to define vision and write requirements. Work with the technical leads to turn requirements into a concrete technical design. Prioritize projects and developer capacity to meet company goals. Break work into epics and tickets, manage dependencies and critical paths, and set realistic timelines. Report status and development KPIs to leaders and stakeholders. Drive performance reviews, hiring, onboarding, training, mentoring, and career development. Qualifications At least 5 years of experience as an individual contributor with a track record of shipping high-quality software, and at least 4 years of project/team management in a software organization. Ability to discuss 2–3 key projects you led to successful delivery. Demonstrated ability to align technical work with product goals and define solid delivery plans, with familiarity with models and techniques to keep teams on track. Engineer/builder mentality: while coding may be less frequent, you can contribute, run experiments, share learnings, and create proofs of concept for end-to-end flows. Generalist capability: participate in discussions across topics including CI/CD, container orchestration, product management, data modeling, API performance, hiring, sprint planning, and even everyday problem-solving. Ownership and accountability: teams are empowered to own their subsystems with strong accountability. Strong communication across levels: ability to explain concepts to non-technical stakeholders and tailor messages for commercial, support, and leadership audiences. Mentorship and impact: you’ve mentored others and can point to how you’ve helped someone's career. Technical proficiency with core technologies: Python, Flask/FastAPI, MongoDB, Apache Iceberg/Parquet, Kubernetes, AWS Glue/Athena, CircleCI. Nice-to-have Knowledge of data models and databases; familiarity with design-focused works on data-intensive applications. About the Crunch Team The Engineering Manager (Data Platform) role will work within the Crunch team, responsible for Crunch as the core web application for syndicated data products, custom research, and first-party research hub. The team focuses on creating innovative, intuitive, accessible experiences for the world’s leading brands, helping evolve data products such as YouGov Brand Index and Profiles.
