Software Engineer (L4/L5), Android Games SDK

Remote Full-time

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with 283 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

The Games Developer Platform team is on a mission to delight members by empowering Game Developers to do the best work of their lives and bridge Netflix’s unique superpowers and technologies to the vibrant, complex world of Gaming . We are looking for a Software Engineer with Android expertise to work on our Games SDK to help us evolve the way people develop and play games. You will play a pivotal role in building the products and features that enable game developers to integrate their games into the Netflix service. In the process, you will help create an immersive environment for Netflix members to discover and play games.

What you will do

Develop product features and foundational infrastructure for the Android Games SDK and corresponding bindings to common game engine plugins (Unity, Unreal)
Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering partners to scope project roadmaps and build functionality to level up our game development experience
Engage with game development partners to understand developer pain points and troubleshoot issues, and drive prioritization and execution of the right solutions
Architect maintainable, performant Android client code with effective documentation
Design code for testability and write automated tests to help uphold product quality

What sets you apart

You are comfortable with some degree of uncertainty and ambiguity. The Netflix Games Platform is evolving quickly as we learn what drives member joy in the gaming space.
You exude developer empathy. You have great intuition for making a clean, easy-to-use API for game developers to integrate Netflix services.
You thrive on cross-functional collaboration. You have excellent communication skills and can translate objectives and concerns between different teams, creating greater alignment between all the stakeholders on a project.
You are self-motivated. You proactively look for solutions to bridge the needs of the business with technology.
You have strong analytical skills. You are adept at analyzing data to gain insights that drive improvements in product quality.

What skills are important to us
We value aptitude over experience, but here are some key skills that will make you successful on this team:

Exceptional coding skills, especially with Kotlin and Java, and proficiency in navigating different languages and technology stacks
Experience developing third-party SDKs
Deep understanding of the technical landscape of Android development and can introduce new paradigms and practices
Experience building and extending secure, scalable client-server communications (GraphQL knowledge a plus)
Experience writing automated tests and using them to power short feedback cycles in a continuous integration environment
Experience with game engines such as Unity and Unreal, native plugins, and bindings
