Software Engineer, I - Metrics for Release Platform

As a Software Engineer I on the Metrics & Release team, you will contribute to the cloud-based infrastructure that evaluates system performance and ensures software updates meet safety and reliability standards before deployment. Responsibilities Contribute to the development and maintenance of AWS-based data pipelines that process vehicle telemetry and validation data Develop Python code and services supporting safety and performance metric computation Assist in analyzing truck-generated data and translating it into measurable system signals Support implementation of release validation logic tied to automated testing pipelines Collaborate with systems, validation, and autonomy teams to help define meaningful KPIs and metrics Investigate pipeline failures, data inconsistencies, and telemetry anomalies using logs and large-scale datasets Support statistical analysis and reporting across validation and testing data Participate in code reviews and collaborate with team members to deliver reliable, maintainable software Skills Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field plus 0–4 years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree in a related technical field Strong programming experience in Python Familiarity with data processing, data pipelines, or working with large datasets Basic understanding of cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS services such as S3, Lambda, ECS, or Step Functions Basic understanding of statistics, data analysis, or metric computation Ability to analyze system behavior through data and logs Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Exposure to robotics, autonomous systems, or sensor data processing Experience working with telemetry, event data, or time-series datasets Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Temporal, Airflow, or AWS Step Functions Experience contributing to automated testing or validation pipelines Experience working in safety-critical or high-reliability systems Benefits A competitive compensation package that includes a bonus component and stock options 100% paid medical, dental, and vision premiums for full-time employees 401K plan with a 6% employer match Flexibility in schedule and generous paid vacation (available immediately after start date) Company-wide holiday office closures AD+D and Life Insurance Company Overview Torc provides L4 end-to-end self-driving software for mobility, trucking, mining, and defense markets through strategic partnerships It was founded in 2005, and is headquartered in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA, with a workforce of 501-1000 employees.
