About the jobThis position is needed to lead the development of innovative backend solutions within our Catalog and Contracts Platform teams. As a Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in expanding our Product Catalog capabilities, enhancing our Commerce Orders fulfillment capabilities and Billing Account lifecycle orchestration, ensuring seamless sales operations and minimal business friction. You will also tackle complex billing configurations for over 305,000 active customers and handle the processing of more than 1 billion transactions daily.ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you’ll:
Design and implement scalable and robust backend services using Java, Scala, and Python.
Collaborate with product managers and architects during the product discovery phase to align technical solutions with business needs.
Lead the API design and architecture to improve system integration and performance.
Manage cloud-based services and infrastructure to ensure high availability and fault tolerance.
Optimize database interactions and data storage solutions for high throughput and efficiency.
Handle the processing and analysis of over 1 billion transactions daily.

Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Java, or similar.
Strong understanding of API development frameworks, system architecture, and frontend and backend development.
Experience with distributed cloud services, microservices architecture, and cloud infrastructure.
Solid knowledge of database management and data-driven application development.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.
Strong communication skills and experience interacting with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a remote work environment.
Desired:
2-4 years of proven experience in Java, Python in a Production environment.
Experience with high-volume e-commerce systems.
Experience with AWS or other public cloud infrastructure platforms.
Familiarity with handling large-scale data (processing and storage).
Familiarity with DevOps principles and infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
Knowledge of API gateway technologies and message brokers (e.g., Kafka) for building scalable, event-driven systems.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.
LocationThis role will be remote,based in the USA but is not eligible to be hired in CA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, WA.Travel We prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C. : $114,600 – $143,300.
Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $121,400 – $151,700.
Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $134,800 – 168,500.
This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
