The SkyWest Flight Attendant plays a crucial role in ensuring passenger safety and comfort while onboard the aircraft. This exciting position involves delivering exceptional customer service, meeting new challenges daily, and representing the SkyWest brand to customers. Key responsibilities include prioritizing the safety and comfort of all passengers, maintaining a positive work environment, and efficiently preparing, serving, and restocking in-flight meals, snacks, beverages, and selling onboard items.

Flight Attendants are tasked with greeting passengers, assisting with carry-on luggage stowage, and delivering in-flight announcements. They also demonstrate effective leadership and direction in both emergency and non-emergency situations, resolving passenger concerns calmly, including disorderly behavior and medical emergencies. The role involves ensuring compliance with safety regulations, inspecting, and operating cabin systems, and managing emergency equipment like escape slides, fire extinguishers, oxygen bottles, and AEDs. Flight Attendants must follow established procedures and meet performance standards independently.

Pay:

SkyWest Flight Attendants start at a pay rate of $28.86 per flight hour. Base compensation is calculated as 76 guaranteed flight hours per month, resulting in a gross monthly salary of $2,193.36, not including additional boarding pay or any flight hours beyond the monthly guarantee.

In addition to the base pay, Flight Attendants receive a per diem of $2.25 for every hour they are on duty away from their assigned domicile, which provides extra compensation for meals and expenses incurred during travel. New hires are guaranteed 76 flight hours per month as a reserve after completing the initial phases of training, meaning they are compensated for 76 hours whether they fly fewer hours or the full amount.

Requirements

Applicants for the SkyWest Flight Attendant position must meet several minimum requirements. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Prior to training, they must hold a current, valid U.S. or foreign passport that remains valid for at least 12 months from the date of application, along with any necessary visas to travel freely between the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas. Strong English communication skills are essential, as Flight Attendants must be able to provide safety information clearly to passengers and write detailed reports on irregular, emergency, or security situations.

Proficiency with electronic devices and personal electronic devices (PEDs) is required for tasks such as operating in-flight audio and video systems, managing in-flight purchases, and performing other duties. Applicants should be comfortable working varied shifts of up to 16 hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and must be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently. Flexibility and a willingness to frequently travel and relocate to any of SkyWest’s assigned crew domiciles are also necessary following the successful completion of SkyWest’s InFlight Training program.

Physical Requirements:

Applicants must meet specific physical requirements to ensure the safe operation of the aircraft. Candidates must be between 5'0" and 6'0" in height (without shoes) to properly fit into jump seats, fasten safety harnesses, move through the cabin aisles, and operate emergency exits. Physical tasks include frequent walking, bending below ankle level, reaching above shoulder level, opening emergency exits and closing aircraft doors (weighing up to 45 pounds), pushing and pulling beverage carts (up to 250 pounds), and lifting or reaching for items, with or without reasonable accommodation. Vision must be corrected to 20/40 or better, and hearing should fall within a 15-17kHz range.

SkyWest requires a neat, professional appearance. Extreme hairstyles or colors are prohibited, and only a single stud nose piercing (2mm or smaller) and two ear piercings per ear are allowed. Ear gauges must be plugged with clear or skin-toned plugs, not exceeding ½ inch in size. No other facial, mouth, or tongue piercings are permitted. Visible tattoos are allowed within size and location guidelines; tattoos outside these guidelines must be covered with skin-tone-compatible makeup, not bandages. Offensive tattoos must remain hidden. Flight Attendants are also expected to wear a company-issued uniform and face mask or covering when required.
