The OpportunityThis position works out of our Columbus, OH location in the Nutrition Division. In Research & Development, our ambition is providing innovative high-quality products, creating sustainable value, delivering superior user experience, and enhancing health outcomes at all stages of life.Primary Job FunctionDesign, implement, and interpret laboratory research under supervision to support business priorities.What You’ll Work OnSupport preclinical and translational research by identifying and evaluating innovative technologies that offer benefits related to gut health and microbiome science:

Conceive, plan, design and/or conduct advanced independent research under the direction of an experienced scientist as defined by project goals.
Collaborate with internal and external groups to conceive and execute novel ideas and/or technology to support Abbott Nutrition business strategies. Generate new ideas/formulations; submit new invention disclosures and support patent applications.
Provide scientific support to other groups within Abbott Nutrition, including Nutrition Science for clinical trial study designs, Legal for submission and prosecution of patent applications; Commercial for product concept and claims development, and Technology Assessment for evaluation of novel ingredients.
Maintain knowledge base in scientific literature including, literature review, scientific meetings, networking with outside investigators, and patent surveillance.
Author manuscripts, present at internal meetings and external conferences. Interact with other groups and share information; participate in team research activities.
May provide leadership/direction for project teams.
Required Qualifications

PhD in Gastroenterology, Microbiology, or related field with 1-2 years of postdoctoral training including background in microbiome science.
Additional training in nutrition is desirable but not required.
Preferred Qualifications

Must have strong research laboratory expertise, oral and written communications skills with the ability to interface with management at all levels.
Desire and ability to work both independently and collaboratively with scientists and non-scientists.
