Senior Manager – Engineering Database Platforms

JOB SUMMARY We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineer to lead our database platform team. As a Technical Product Owner, you will play a crucial role in providing thought leadership and driving strategy at scale. You will be responsible for defining and communicating the product vision, ensuring alignment with business goals, and leading the team to deliver innovative and high-quality database solutions. Your ability to think strategically and execute effectively will be key to the success of our database platforms. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, and business stakeholders, to ensure that our database platforms meet the needs of our customers and support our long-term business objectives. In this role, you will also be responsible for staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies, and leveraging this knowledge to drive innovation and continuous improvement within the team. You will foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning, and provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members. CANDIDATE PROFILE Required Skills and Experience: β€’ Undergraduate degree in an engineering or computer science discipline and/or equivalent experience/certification β€’ 6+ years in cloud platform/infrastructure engineering, substantially consisting of experience implementing database solutions using AWS products (RDS, Aurora, Document DB) and Couchbase β€’ 2+ years in a leadership role β€’ Proven track record of leading and managing technical teams in infrastructure automation and cloud engineering β€’ Demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, and develop talent, fostering a high-performance and inclusive team culture. β€’ Hands-on expertise with Terraform, policy-as-code (OPA, Sentinel, etc.), and DevSecOps best practices β€’ Experience integrating and applying emerging AI tools and technologies to infrastructure automation and cloud operations. β€’ Strong background in public and private cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), cloud security, and compliance automation β€’ Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on technical solutioning, actively contributing to architecture, design, and troubleshooting in a product model. β€’ Demonstrated success leading product delivery (product ownership) from requirements gathering to delivery. β€’ Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Preferred: β€’ Graduate degree in a technical discipline. β€’ Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP, HashiCorp Terraform). β€’ Experience with business requirements gathering, technology roadmaps, and strategic planning. β€’ Knowledge of data security and compliance standards. β€’ Certification in product management or related fields. CORE WORK ACTIVITIES β€’ Lead and manage the database platform team, setting clear goals, providing coaching, and supporting career development. This position will have 3+ direct reports. β€’ Serve as the Technical Product Owner, defining the product vision, roadmap, and priorities for database platform solutions. β€’ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with business goals and customer needs. β€’ Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of database solutions to ensure high performance, scalability, and reliability. β€’ Drive the adoption of best practices and continuous improvement within the database platform team. β€’ Ensure alignment with security, compliance, and governance requirements. β€’ Oversee the lifecycle management of database platform products, including versioning, documentation, and support. β€’ Evaluate new technologies and industry trends to enhance team capabilities and business outcomes. β€’ Communicate goals, progress, and achievements to stakeholders and leadership. β€’ Promote adherence to organizational policies and procedures. LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT β€’ Build and nurture a high-performing team, fostering innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence. β€’ Champion the vision for automated infrastructure and policy management, driving organizational change and adoption. β€’ Provide regular feedback, conduct performance reviews, and support professional growth. β€’ Model hands-on leadership, actively engaging in technical challenges and solution development. β€’ Ensure the team remains at the forefront of automation and AI technology trends.
