Senior Industrial Hygienist

The Company's current focus is the Blackwater Mine in central British Columbia approximately 160km southwest of Prince George and 450km northeast of Vancouver. Reporting to the Manager - Health, Safety & Security, the Senior Industrial Hygienist is responsible for developing, implementing, and continually improving the mineās industrial hygiene programs to ensure a safe and healthy working environment. This role requires a proactive, field-focused professional capable of building systems from the ground up while supporting the operationās rapid development. The Senior Industrial Hygienist will conduct exposure assessments, implement monitoring programs, oversee regulatory compliance, mentor junior staff, and provide technical leadership on occupational health risks associated with a gold mining environment. Location: Blackwater Mine Site Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation
Responsibilities:
Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.Develop and implement a comprehensive Industrial Hygiene (IH) program appropriate for an earlyāstage mining operation, including long-term strategic planning.Establish and maintain exposure assessment strategies for chemical, physical, noise, radiation, biological, and ergonomic hazards.Build and standardize IH procedures, protocols, sampling plans, and documentation systems.Lead continuous improvement initiatives, using data-driven insights to reduce occupational exposures.Conduct routine and non-routine IH monitoring, including:-Airborne contaminants (dust, silica, welding fumes, diesel particulate matter)-Noise levels-Vibration-Heat and cold stress-RadiationPerform qualitative and quantitative risk assessments for new tasks, equipment, or processes.Perform inspections and audits to engineering controls to assess their condition and effectiveness.Troubleshoot emerging occupational health concerns and recommend effective controls.Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health legislation and mining regulations.Develop and manage IH recordkeeping, reporting, and audit readiness.Prepare reports and presentations for leadership, regulators, and corporate stakeholders.Develop and deliver training on IH-related topics (respiratory protection, silica awareness, hearing conversation, chemical handling).Develop, monitor and implement a medical surveillance program, including lead exposure.Support respirator fit-testing, hearing conservation programs, and other exposure control initiatives.Collaborate with supervisors and workers to promote strong industrial hygiene awareness and safe work practices.Work closely with all departments to anticipate and control IH hazards.Participate in investigations of workplace incidents or accidents related to occupational health hazards to identify root causes and prevent future occurrences.Provide IH guidance during project expansions, commissioning activities, and changeāmanagement processes.Provide mentorship to junior IH professionals and support their ongoing development.Serve as the siteās subject matter expert for occupational hygiene.Participate in the development and review of the Medical Services Plan, Communicable Disease Plan, and overall Health Plan for site.Develop and revise IH SOPs.
Qualifications:
QualificationsB.Sc., or masters degree in Health and Safety or Occupational/Industrial HygieneCertification ROHT (Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST)15+ yearsā industrial hygiene experience in heavy industry, preferably in the mining sectorDemonstrated experience conducting exposure monitoring and implementing control strategies in fieldābased, industrial settings.Strong knowledge of IH standards and regulations and BC mining legislation.Experience working in remote or rotation-based environments is an assetProficiency in Microsoft Office suites and health information management systems.Experience establishing IH programs in earlyāstage or developing operations is an asset.A sound and practical knowledge of the principles of industrial hygiene and sampling procedures.
