You'll be the桥梁 (bridge) that connects workflow challenges with technical solutions, helping our crew work more efficiently, collaborate more effectively, and bring their creative visions to life with less friction and more flow.

You'll work closely with our Art, Design, and Engineering teams to understand their pain points, prototype solutions, implement robust tools, and ensure adoption across the studio. What You'll Do at arenaflex

As a Senior Game Tools Engineer at arenaflex, you'll be embedded in our development pipeline, responsible for creating, maintaining, and optimizing the tools that power our game creation process. Your work will span multiple disciplines and touch every aspect of our production workflow. Here's what you can expect:

Identify and Resolve Workflow Inefficiencies

Proactively analyze our development pipeline across all disciplines to identify bottlenecks, redundancies, and pain points
Work closely with artists, designers, engineers, and producers to understand their day-to-day challenges and workflow frustrations
Document inefficiencies and elaborate on areas for improvement with detailed analysis and recommendations
Prioritize issues based on impact on production timelines and team productivity
Continuously monitor the effectiveness of implemented solutions and iterate as needed


Build and Maintain Development Tools

Maintain, extend, and provide technical support for arenaflex's existing suite of engine-specific and custom tools
Troubleshoot and resolve issues reported by team members, ensuring minimal disruption to production
Ensure backward compatibility and smooth migrations when updating or replacing tools
Create comprehensive documentation and user guides to facilitate tool adoption
Develop automated testing frameworks to ensure tool reliability and stability


Design and Implement Custom Asset Pipelines

Build and guide custom asset pipelines that streamline the creation, processing, and integration of game assets
Optimize asset workflows to reduce import times and improve iteration speed
Collaborate with art teams to develop pipeline solutions that match their creative needs
Implement asset validation and quality control checks to maintain consistency
Design scalable pipeline architectures that can grow with our projects


Develop Proprietary Libraries and Technologies

Grow arenaflex's proprietary libraries, tools, and technologies across multiple game engines and frameworks
Create reusable components and frameworks that accelerate future development
Explore emerging technologies and evaluate their potential to improve our development processes
Contribute to our internal technology roadmap and strategy
Mentor junior team members on best practices in tools development


Collaborate and Implement Solutions

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate candidate solutions for identified problems
Evaluate tradeoffs given project context and development timelines
Implement selected solutions with careful attention to code quality and maintainability
Facilitate adoption of new tools through training, demos, and ongoing support
Gather feedback from users and incorporate improvements into future iterations

Essential Qualifications

Strong Passion for Empowering Others: You genuinely enjoy helping your colleagues do their best work and thrive on seeing others succeed because of the tools you've built
Experience with Full Tool Lifecycle: Proven experience identifying issues, researching potential solutions, implementing tools, and evaluating their effectiveness in a production environment
Custom Standalone Tools Experience: Experience developing and maintaining custom standalone tools that solve real production challenges
Multi-Disciplinary Tools Development: Experience building tools used by various game development disciplines (art, design, engineering, audio, QA)
Programming Proficiency: Strong skills in C#, C++, and Python
Self-Directed Work Style: Capable of working effectively in a self-directed environment with minimal supervision
Problem-Solving Mindset: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly diagnose issues and propose effective solutions


Preferred Qualifications

Custom Game Engine Experience: Experience working with proprietary or custom game engines
Unreal or Unity Expertise: Hands-on experience with Unreal Engine or Unity, including editor customization and tooling
Web Technologies: JavaScript and .NET technology stack experience
Game Industry Background: Previous experience in the video game industry, preferably in a tools or pipeline role
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical team members
