Senior Fisheries Biologist

Remote Full-time
About the position

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Bureau of Fisheries Management is dedicated to the protection, maintenance, and development of Wisconsin's fisheries and aquatic resources. This program employs over 200 positions annually and allocates more than $30 million to manage fisheries across Wisconsin's extensive water bodies, including over 15,000 lakes, 42,000 miles of streams and rivers, two Great Lakes, and 1,000 miles of shoreline along the Mississippi River. We are currently seeking to fill five permanent Fisheries Biologist positions, each located in one of the following headquarters: Fitchburg, Horicon, Plymouth, Shawano, and Wautoma. Each position will serve specific counties within the South and East Districts, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the region's aquatic ecosystems. The selected candidates will be responsible for planning and implementing a diverse fisheries management program aimed at protecting and enhancing sport and, where applicable, commercial fishing across all lakes, streams, flowages, rivers, and ponds within their designated geographical areas. This role is crucial in ensuring the sustainability of fish populations and the health of aquatic environments, contributing to the overall well-being of Wisconsin's natural resources and the communities that rely on them. Remote work options will be available after the initial onboarding period, with the extent of remote work determined by program needs. Frequent travel throughout the assigned region and occasional statewide travel will be required, making it essential for candidates to possess a valid driver's license and meet the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy requirements.
