Job Summary

As a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer - DevOps & Data Systems at Wayfair, you will be responsible for designing, scaling, and supporting our large, complex data systems and cloud infrastructure. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability, performance, and security of our systems, and provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers. Key Responsibilities


Design and Development: Compose clean, high-performance, and well-tested foundation code with a focus on reusability, using languages such as Python, Terraform, and Packer.
Technical Leadership: Provide architectural guidance and technical mentorship to a team of 6-8 engineers, and act as a technical expert and problem solver for complex issues.
Documentation and Standards: Create and maintain detailed documentation, and establish, maintain, and adhere to Wayfair's technical standards, policies, and procedures.
Best Practices and Performance: Recommend and implement system best practices in alignment with standard SRE principles, and provide guidance on system performance and throughput expectations.
Collaboration and Support: Support development teams in planning, scaling, and operating production data systems, including CloudSQL, Firestore, Pub/Sub, Kafka, Dataproc, and Windstream.
Migration and Optimization: Lead migration efforts, taking existing platforms at Wayfair and helping move them to the cloud, and optimize system performance and efficiency.
Self-Service Enablement: Leverage software development skills to enable self-service management of distributed systems.


Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:


Industry Experience: 5+ years of relevant industry experience in DevOps or cloud data systems, in a senior or technical lead role.
Cloud Experience: Experience designing and delivering infrastructure in the cloud, with a focus on resilience and scalability.
Cloud Data Services: Experience working with cloud data services, including databases, storage, and data processing (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
Streaming and Integration: Experience with real-time streaming tools and frameworks, such as Kafka, Pub/Sub, and Dataflow, and with modern integration tools and frameworks, such as Windstream and Arranger.
GCP Data Stores: Experience with GCP's data stores, including Cloud SQL, Spanner, Firestore, and BigQuery.
Distributed Data Processing: Experience with distributed data processing systems, including Spark, Hive, and Voila.


Preferred Qualifications:


Additional Cloud Experience: Experience with additional cloud providers, such as AWS or Azure.
Containerization: Experience with containerization technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Agile Methodologies: Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems, such as Git.
