Senior Business Central Consultant (Advisory Role – Regulated Imports)

Job Title: Senior Business Central Consultant (Advisory Role – Regulated Imports) Overview: We are a U.S.-based importer currently in year two of a migration from a legacy on-premise ERP system to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (Cloud/SaaS). This is a complex implementation due to the nature of our business: highly regulated imports of alcohol, subject to state and federal reporting requirements, duties, tariffs, and tax regulations that vary by product attributes such as alcohol content, varietal, country of origin, and liquid volume. We are seeking an experienced Business Central consultant for a short-term, advisory-only engagement. The consultant will perform an objective audit of our current system architecture, including base configuration, customizations, ISV solutions, and integrations, and provide actionable recommendations to ensure scalability, compliance, and long-term efficiency. Objectives: •Evaluate the current state of our Business Central implementation, including configuration, custom AL code, ISV usage, and system architecture. • Review document handling workflows for purchase orders, broker documents, customer invoicing, and customs paperwork. • Audit how we are managing and allocating import costs (duties, tariffs, freight, taxes), and determine whether our current approach is sustainable and compliant. • Advise on handling state-level gallonage reporting, alcohol tax tracking, and other regulatory requirements. • Review current sales and purchase pricing structure, including monthly and state-specific quantity discounts, future price updates, and reporting obligations. • Provide insight on billback processes via credit memos. • Identify any unnecessary customizations or third-party solutions and suggest viable alternatives using standard BC functionality or more appropriate ISVs. • Deliver a concise findings report, including a list of current risks, future scalability concerns, and prioritized next steps. Required Experience: • Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Business Central, including recent work on BC Cloud implementations. • Proven experience auditing or advising on complex BC implementations, particularly those involving extensive AL modifications and third-party solutions. • Strong knowledge of import logistics, landed cost allocation, and compliance tracking within Business Central. • Experience working with businesses in highly regulated industries, ideally alcohol, beverage distribution, or other sectors with complex tax and documentation requirements. • Familiarity with state-level alcohol reporting, tax calculation, and gallonage tracking in the U.S. a plus. • Expertise in pricing structures, discount matrices, and customer-specific terms. • Ability to provide strategic, high-level recommendations and communicate clearly with both technical and business stakeholders. Engagement Details: This is a short-term, advisory-only engagement estimated at 20–40 hours over several weeks. The consultant will work directly with our internal leadership and project team. We are not looking for implementation services or long-term support at this stage; this engagement is strictly to assess, advise, and recommend.
