Our platform features over 6 million rental units and uses intelligent matching technology to connect users with curated listings, offering a personalized, guided, and stress-free rental search experience.Job SummaryAs a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and enhancing the services that power the core rental platform. You’ll collaborate closely with a talented team to build scalable, efficient backend systems that improve the experience for both property listers and renters. If you're passionate about solving complex problems, writing clean and maintainable code, and continuously learning new technologies, we’d love to hear from you!ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain back-end services that drive Apartment List’s core product.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and improve features for property listers.Write high-quality, performant code primarily using Ruby on Rails and Java/Kotlin.Deploy and manage services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).Take ownership of projects, advocate for best practices, and seek simple, scalable solutions.Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and engineering trends to continuously improve our stack.Qualifications and Job Requirements5+ years of professional software development experience in organizations with strong engineering processes.Strong software development skills and a solid foundation in computer science fundamentals.Proficiency in Ruby on Rails and/or Java/Kotlin (experience with both is a plus).Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud (GCP).A well-rounded engineer who can take ownership of projects from conception to deployment.Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.What We Offer100% Remote Work: Enjoy the freedom to work from the location that helps you thrive.
