Senior Backend Developer/Remote-6+ months Contract
Title: Senior Backend Developer
Location: Fully Remote (East Coast Hours)
Duration: 6+ months
We're looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join an Agile team responsible for a mission-critical web platform. You'll work on stabilizing and enhancing existing systems while driving modernization using Java and AWS. This role suits a pragmatic, hands-on engineer who enjoys owning backend systems end-to-end and shaping technical direction in a regulated environment.
What You'll Do
ā¢ Design, build, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot
ā¢ Develop and evolve microservices and REST APIs
ā¢ Modernize legacy backend components while ensuring system stability
ā¢ Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas and queries
ā¢ Integrate services with AWS (Lambda, S3, API Gateway, SQS, EventBridge, etc.)
ā¢ Apply event-driven and cloud-native patterns to improve scalability and resilience
ā¢ Write unit and integration tests and participate in code reviews
ā¢ Support production systems, debugging issues and improving observability
ā¢ Collaborate closely with Product, Frontend, QA, and DevOps teams in an Agile environment
What We're Looking For
ā¢ Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot
ā¢ Solid understanding of backend architecture, microservices, and design patterns
ā¢ Hands-on experience with AWS services
ā¢ Strong SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL
ā¢ Experience working with legacy systems and incremental modernization
ā¢ Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and containerized deployments
ā¢ Financial Services or Wealth Management experience is a plus
ā¢ Ownership mindset and strong problem-solving skills
