About the position

The Senior Accountant - Treasury & Compliance is a pivotal role within the Finance Division at Toastmasters. This position is designed for an individual who will be deeply involved in the Treasury and Compliance departments, serving as the primary contact for members regarding tax and regulatory inquiries, banking support, and various related tasks. The role is hands-on and requires a blend of tactical day-to-day responsibilities, including direct communication with members, collaboration with third-party tax experts to define and update compliance requirements, and assisting the manager with oversight of treasury and compliance systems. In this role, the Senior Accountant will support the department in the accurate and timely filing of all tax returns, focusing on federal returns such as the 990 and 990N, as well as state returns like the 199N, and other tax obligations including sales & use, VAT, GST, HST, and import/export duties. The accountant will proactively research tax obligations and exemptions in various jurisdictions and will be involved in the development of tax collection strategies for new states or countries. Additionally, the Senior Accountant will provide banking assistance to Toastmasters clubs and Districts, support new corporate clubs by reviewing vendor agreements, and assist members with their liability insurance needs related to venue rentals and events. The role also includes monitoring incoming certificate of insurance requests and ensuring compliance with PCI standards in collaboration with the IT department. High customer service standards are essential in this position, and the Senior Accountant will act as a backup to the Manager of Treasury & Compliance, performing other duties as assigned by management.

Responsibilities
• Support the department in the filing of all tax returns accurately and on time.

• Research tax obligations and exemptions in various jurisdictions.
,
• Monitor SS4 assignments and follow through with the IRS for Federal tax identification numbers.

• Provide banking assistance to Toastmasters clubs and Districts.
,
• Review vendor agreements for new corporate clubs to ensure compliance.
,
• Assist members with liability insurance needs for venue rentals and events.
,
• Monitor incoming certificate of insurance requests and process them with the insurance provider.
,
• Answer tax or regulatory questions from members via email or phone.
,
• Monitor the company's PCI compliance and work with IT to ensure accurate reporting to PCI partners.
,
• Ensure high customer service standards in the treasury and compliance area.
,
• Act as a backup to the Manager - Treasury & Compliance.
,
• Perform other duties and special assignments as directed by management.

Requirements
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong attention to detail and good communication skills.
,
• Intermediate to Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
,
• Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting or finance.
,
• Non-profit or tax/regulatory experience is a plus.

• Administrator experience with Avalara or other sales tax software is preferred.
