CALSTART provides scientific, technical and policy support for regulatory development and clean technology and infrastructure acceleration.About The Role:This position will serve as the subject matter expert to ensure compliance and consistency in adhering to accounting principles generally accepted in the United States and funding agency regulations/guidelines such as the Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance or 2 CFR 200), or state and local funding agencies. It will provide critical insight into the continued efforts around the improvement and facilitation of cross-functional relationships between Accounting and Project Management across the company. Additionally, this role includes performing financial analysis and business support in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and business needs. There will also be significant cross functional interactions with project management and business development.**This is a hybrid role. The requirement will be to be in the office in person in Pasadena, CA one day a week, on occasion the requirement will be two days a week, depending on the workload** What You’ll Do: Review funding contracts to ascertain: The presence of federal funding Cost reimbursement vs. milestone-based vs. time and materials billing terms Contract/project reporting requirementsAscertain and communicate contract compliance to appropriate personnel issues that impact project operationsManage contract billings in accordance with funding contract terms and conditions to include preparing contract billings on a timely basisReview subcontractor/subrecipient contract billing submissions in accordance with terms and conditions of subcontract/subawardMonitor subcontractor/subrecipient compliance with subcontract/subaward terms and conditions.Quarterly reporting on Federal contractsLiaison with funding agency and/or subcontractors/subrecipients regarding contract finance and other issuesMonitor contract finance (billings/costs v. budget) and communicate contract financial status with appropriate personnelMonitor contract status (contract term/period of performance, reporting requirements, etc.) and advise appropriate personnelAssist with preparation project budgets, budget modifications and contract amendmentsUpdate and monitor contract logs to advise program managers of contract statusEnsure completion of grant close-out processesDrafting contracts and contract amendments as neededPerform general accounting duties such as journal entries, particularly as they relate to contract billings and subcontractor/subrecipient billings What You’ll Bring to the Table: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college/university (Minimum)5 + years of relevant accounting experience, particularly with government contracts/grants accounting and compliance. Nonprofit experience helpfulWorking knowledge of auditing functions, particularly as they relate to verifying costs and expenses.Knowledge of government contracting, procurement processes, OMB (Office of Management and Budget), FAR and other regulations specific to government contractingExperience in reporting requirements and procedures related to federal, state, other agencies, cost accounting, government accounting and auditingAdvanced abilities in Microsoft Excel and document management applications such as Adobe Acrobat ProAbility and initiative to identify issues and research optimal solutionsAbility to seek out and provide support for others as a team member Desired Qualifications: CPA or CPA candidate is preferred but not requiredFamiliarity with Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance or 2 CFR 200 [Formerly OMB A-110, A-122 and A-133]), the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and state cost accounting standards (Typically California)Expertise in computerized accounting and reporting applications (Preferably Sage 100/MAS90)Organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects, set priorities and meet deadlinesFlexible work style with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, changing environmentStrong work ethic with a defined sense of urgency, ownership, and accountability for job dutiesA proactive, solutions-oriented approach to problem solvingSelf-starter who can work with minimal supervisionExcellent management and supervisory skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong analytical skills and attention to details Additional Information We understand that not everyone will match the above qualifications 100%. Compensation CALSTART values transparency and strives to provide as much information regarding compensation as possible. The salary range for this role is $72,000 - $85,760. We determine pay based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, education, internal equity and other factors relevant to the job.
