About the Role
Wingz is seeking a Safety & Risk Operations Manager to lead our efforts in protecting our drivers, riders, and business from operational, legal, and reputational risk. This role sits at the intersection of safety, insurance, compliance, and claims, ensuring we not only respond effectively to incidents but also proactively reduce risk across our platform.
You’ll work cross-functionally with Operations, Legal, and Product teams to build scalable systems that keep our community safe and our business resilient.
What You’ll Do
Safety Management
• Develop and enforce safety standards for drivers and vehicles across all markets.
• Manage safety programs, training, and communications to promote a culture of proactive prevention.
• Lead investigations for major incidents or accidents, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Maintain documentation and reporting systems for safety incidents, audits, and insurance purposes.
• Identify trends in driver behavior or platform use that indicate emerging safety risks.
Risk and Claims Operations
• Oversee all insurance and claims processes, ensuring timely reporting, investigation, and resolution.
• Manage relationships with insurance carriers, claims adjusters, and legal counsel.
• Analyze claims data to identify root causes and propose mitigations that reduce frequency and cost.
• Support development of financial models and forecasting for insurance and risk exposure.
• Ensure compliance with state-level transportation, insurance, and safety regulations.
Compliance and Governance
• Maintain policies and records required by regulatory bodies and insurers.
• Ensure adherence to internal safety and risk management procedures across all business functions.
• Partner with Legal to manage compliance with driver background check requirements, insurance minimums, and reporting obligations.
• Support audits, inspections, and certifications related to safety and insurance operations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Partner with Product and Engineering teams to improve in-app safety features and reporting tools.
• Work with Legal on risk mitigation in contracts and policies.
• Coordinate with Operations and Support to ensure alignment on incident response protocols.
• Report key metrics and insights to senior leadership, highlighting risks and mitigations.
What You’ll Need
• 5+ years of experience in safety, risk management, compliance or insurance operations (mobility, logistics, or transportation experience strongly preferred).
• Strong understanding of insurance claims, liability, and risk assessment processes.
• Proven ability to develop and operationalize safety and compliance frameworks.
• Analytical mindset with comfort using data to identify trends and drive improvements.
• Excellent communication skills; able to collaborate across technical and operational teams.
Bonus Points
• Paralegal or JD
• Experience in NEMT or healthcare transportation.
• Experience working in rideshare or marketplaces (e.g., Uber, Lyft).
• Experience managing claims or insurance programs for high-volume fleets or marketplaces.
