This individual is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a specific unit or department, such as a medical-surgical floor, ICU, or rehabilitation unit. Their primary duties include: Key Responsibilities: β€’ Leadership and Staff Management: β€’ Supervising a team of nurses and healthcare professionals. β€’ Ensuring proper staffing levels and scheduling to meet patient needs. β€’ Offering mentorship, training, and performance evaluations for staff. β€’ Addressing staffing issues, including conflict resolution and ensuring high morale. β€’ Clinical Oversight: β€’ Ensuring that nurses follow proper procedures and protocols. β€’ Ensuring patient care is provided according to the highest clinical standards. β€’ Handling complex or urgent patient care situations. β€’ Budgeting and Resource Management: β€’ Overseeing the unit’s budget, including supplies and staffing costs. β€’ Managing inventory and ensuring that medical supplies are adequately stocked. β€’ Patient Care: β€’ Collaborating with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare providers to develop care plans. β€’ Ensuring that patients receive high-quality care in a safe and efficient manner. β€’ Monitoring patient outcomes and working to improve patient satisfaction. β€’ Compliance and Quality Control: β€’ Ensuring that the unit complies with healthcare regulations, such as safety standards and accreditation requirements. β€’ Leading quality improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery. β€’ Reporting: β€’ Regularly reporting to higher management on unit performance, patient outcomes, and staffing issues. β€’ Tracking and documenting patient care, incidents, and any changes in policies. Skills and Qualifications: β€’ Education: An RN Unit Manager typically holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
