About the position The GC-FIRST Fellowship at the University of Minnesota is a part-time, two-year research training program designed for genetic counselors. The fellowship aims to integrate genetic counseling research into practice, providing participants with structured coursework, research training modules, and practical experiences. Fellows will engage in mentorship, write research articles, and develop a toolkit for their research work and job searches, all while collaborating with faculty and peers in the field. Responsibilities • Complete structured coursework and research training modules. • Participate in practical genetic counseling research experiences. • Volunteer on national committees related to practice guidelines and outcomes research. • Mentor MS genetic counseling projects. • Write two original research articles and a grant application upon completion of the fellowship. • Participate in peer reviews, abstract submissions, and presentations. • Create an individual development plan with research mentors. • Develop a toolkit for research work and job searches. Requirements • Must have completed a Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from an ACGC Accredited Training Program. • Certified or eligible for certification as a genetic counselor. • At least two years post-graduation from the MS training program before applying for the fellowship. • Evidence of current licensure if required to practice in the state of residence. Nice-to-haves • Experience in telework or additional communication training. • Participation in national or international committee work. • Experience in clinical or industry improvement projects.
