Position Summary:
The Coordinator will actively build positive educational relationships with target population students, parents and site staff. Position components include providing not-for-credit enrichment and for-credit classes, college visits, tutoring, advising, and other student support services online and in-person to increase awareness of college opportunities and resources.
Upward Bound is a federally funded early outreach college preparatory program designed to increase college attendance among low-income and first-generation college-bound high school students.
Individuals who have succeeded in overcoming disadvantages and circumstances similar to those of the target population are urged to apply
Continued employment in the position is contingent upon continued funding through designated external sources. This grant is set to expire on 05/31/2027. This program is currently applying for renewal.
The work schedule for this position is flexible and will include working evenings and weekends and local travel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Actively build positive relationships with students, parents, and school officials to promote the values of the program
Recruit, select and monitor progress of students enrolled in the program
Design activities to enhance and foster student engagement and success
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with high school faculty, counselors, and administrators; parents, and College personnel
Present a professional image to principals, guidance counselors, students, and community organizations in promoting the Upward Bound program
Promote the Upward Bound program and act as a representative of the College in school-held and online parent and student meetings
Administer and interpret standardized state, national tests and other relevant tests
Present in-person and online information and recruitment workshops at high and/or middle school sites
Develop a calendar of activities designed to promote student engagement and interest in attending college
Coordinate in person and online tutoring and other supportive services to assist program participants with high school achievement
Work with other campus site coordinators to plan collaborative events
Compile accurate documentation tracking program participants and contacts
Develop reports to illustrate achievement of grant objectives
Assist students with the completion of college admission and financial aid applications
Special assignments during the summer include: Upward Bound team approach to schedule/coordination of for-credit and non-credit classes, workshops, and field trips
Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships to achieve program goals
Provide exceptional customer service
Provide transportation on 12 passenger vans
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Student Services, Counseling, or a related field and
One year of program experience related to secondary education and/or postsecondary level counseling or student services (advising, admissions, financial aid, career counseling) and
Valid Arizona Driver's License with a 36 month Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) included
or
An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
Preferred:
Conversational Spanish in both speaking and writing
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Knowledge of recruitment and retention of low-income and first-generation, college-bound middle and/or high school students
Pertinent federal, state, and local laws and College policies and procedures related to student privacy
Developing positive interpersonal relationships to achieve goals
Knowledge and use of computer database programs and online communication platforms.
Creative in-person and online presentation and group engagement skills
Understands requirements for high school graduation
College admission and financial aid application procedures
Administration of standardized state, national, and other relevant tests
Community College standards and practices
Event and program coordination and planning
Work coordination and prioritizing while performing multiple tasks and efficiently allocating resources
Demonstrate high-quality judgment and decision making using critical thinking and complex problem-solving techniques
Compilation of data monitoring student progress and preparation of reports
Public speaking using persuasion and providing instruction to a diverse population as appropriate for the receiving audience
Clear, concise verbal and written communication and comprehension
Demonstrate an acceptable driving record per established Pima policy
Expected salary: $52500 - 59700 per year
