What You Are Great At

You are a youth-centered collaborator who has a think-outside-the-box mindset. You have experience in supporting initiatives and programs related to school age youth and education and bring the spirit, creativity, and voice of working with young people into the work
You are an adept project manager who is driven by the details. You make sure project collaborators are informed and engaged at every step and are clear on their responsibilities and roles. You effectively organize time (yours and others') as well as project documentation and messaging. You are always looking for better and more impactful ways of doing things and can map out effective timelines and delegate responsibilities.
You are a strong communicator. You have strong writing skills that translate into all kinds of work product such as emails, requests for proposals, and presentation outlines. Your communication skills (which includes good listening skills) also help you build productive relationships with staff and partners.
You are a creative problem-solver. You have a positive attitude towards problem solving and enjoy creating solutions to challenging problems. You can research and use data to identify program improvements, and you don't get easily discouraged or flustered when programs or initiatives take unexpected paths or hit roadblocks.
You're a team player. You work well with other staff, both within your department and cross-functionally across the organization. You proactively offer assistance to colleagues when you see the need. And, you have experience contributing to a positive organizational culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
What You Will Do

The Education Manager supports all school age youth work for UWGNH - which includes the New Haven Tutoring Initiative, the Greater New Haven Youth Network, the Summer Youth Fund, and other education focused initiatives.
This position will be responsible for managing collaboratives of external partners, contractors, city officials, and grantees and will require investing time in/with the community - including community listening and problem/opportunity identification; project strategy, implementation, and management; and measurement of project results and impact.
This position will require strong community engagement and relationship skills to be an effective, motivating, and trusted partner within the landscape of youth agencies and other community partners.
What You Need

Bachelor's degree and/or 5 years of experience in education or working with school age youth programs.
At least 3 years of non-profit experience, with at least 2 years' experience managing complex community initiatives.
Substantive local knowledge of school age youth afterschool and summer programs (K-12).
Strong written and oral communication skills.
A successful track record in setting priorities, and keen analytical, program, and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making.
Excellent relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Proficient with MS Office365, Docusign, and other grants management platforms as well as a demonstrated comfort in learning new software/ online tools as needed.
Ability to work with diverse staff and volunteers.

In accordance with organizational policies, this position requires a criminal background check as a condition of employment. United Way staff are currently working hybrid, with at least two days per week in our office in New Haven. Pay range for this position is $45,000-$55,000/year.
