Position Overview: The Mortgage Underwriter (Veterans Only) is responsible for evaluating and approving mortgage loan applications based on a thorough review of financial information and risk assessment. This role involves ensuring that loans meet all regulatory and company standards while providing exceptional service to veteran clients. The underwriter works under the supervision of a financial institution or mortgage company and focuses on serving the veteran community. This is a salaried position with benefits. Key Responsibilities: • Loan Evaluation: • Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including financial statements, credit reports, and property appraisals. • Assess the risk and creditworthiness of loan applicants based on company policies and regulatory guidelines. • Determine loan eligibility and approve or deny loan applications. • Compliance and Risk Assessment: • Ensure all loan applications comply with federal, state, and company regulations. • Identify and address any discrepancies, issues, or potential risks in loan applications. • Work with loan officers and processors to resolve issues and provide guidance on loan requirements. • Documentation and Reporting: • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of loan applications, approvals, and denials. • Prepare and present reports on underwriting activities and loan performance to management. • Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and properly filed. • Veteran Community Engagement: • Act as a liaison between the financial institution and the veteran community. • Provide specialized underwriting services and advice tailored to the unique needs of veterans and their families. • Participate in events, seminars, and workshops aimed at educating veterans about mortgage options and financial planning. • Collaboration and Communication: • Collaborate with loan officers, processors, and other team members to facilitate a smooth loan approval process. • Communicate loan decisions and conditions clearly to loan officers and clients. • Provide feedback and recommendations to improve underwriting processes and policies. • Training and Development: • Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and products through ongoing training and professional development. • Attend company meetings, training sessions, and seminars as required. Qualifications: • Education: Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent is required. • Experience: Previous experience in mortgage underwriting, financial services, or a related field is preferred. Military experience is highly valued. • Skills: • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities. • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. • Proficiency in computer software and systems used in mortgage underwriting. • Effective communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
