About the Role As a seasonal independent contractor with OpenEd’s Assessment Team, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality assessments to K-12 students across multiple states. Testing occurs throughout the school year, with testing windows varying based on school district schedules. The Open Ed Proctor is a crucial student and family-facing role, acting as a professional representative of OpenEd during remote assessment events. This role involves either directly administering tests (often 1:1) as a Tester or supervising student participation and assessment completion as a Proctor. Independent contractors determine their own availability. Priority scheduling for school-based testing, which typically occurs between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM during testing windows (based on the state's time zone), is generally given to contractors who commit to 25 or more testing hours per week. All contractors complete required orientation for each assessment prior to being scheduled. Your Immediate Impact • Ensure consistency with assessment protocols • Contribute to accurate, timely data collection • Support a positive and professional virtual testing experience Job Requirements: For All Contractors (Testers & Proctors): • Completion of required training and certification prior to participation • Comfort using Zoom or Google Meet and navigating digital tools • Ability to maintain a quiet, professional setting during testing sessions • Strict adherence to test scripts and assessment protocols • Professional and clear communication with students and families Testers: • Access to a computer with camera capabilities for video conferencing • Access to a separate touchscreen tablet for live scoring • Successful completion of a practice session with a Team Lead prior to working with students Proctors: • Provide support during the assessment session • Introduce the session and remain available to assist • Help students stay on track and focused • Monitor the session without administering the test directly Success Metrics: • 100% of contractors complete training and certification before testing • 95% of scheduled sessions start on time with correct materials and setup • 90%+ of testers pass their practice session on the first attempt • 100% of testers and proctors follow protocols and scripts as assigned • 100% of families receive clear and professional communication during testing Who You Are: • You enjoy working with students in a calm and professional manner • You’re reliable, punctual, and take responsibility for your schedule • You follow directions closely and appreciate clarity and structure • You are comfortable with technology and are willing to learn new tools • You’re looking for flexible, seasonal work that makes a difference This Role Will Excite You IF: • You love teaching and want the flexibility of working from home • You’re excited to engage in daily live learning with students while also having time for thoughtful planning and outreach • You believe that education should be tailored to each student’s strengths, needs, and goals • You value autonomy in your schedule while still contributing meaningfully to a larger mission Team & Autonomy: • As a seasonal contractor, you will work independently but are supported by a Team Lead who will help coordinate training, schedules, and certification. • You’ll have flexibility in setting your own hours, but required will be a minimum of 25 hours open in your schedule (up to 40 hours max) during a given testing window. • While the role is seasonal, many contractors are invited back for multiple testing windows throughout the year. • Between seasons, you will receive communication about future training and testing opportunities.
