[Remote] Sr Cloud Network Engineer

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Microsoft is seeking a Senior Cloud Network Engineer to join their Azure Hyperscale Networking Team. The role involves designing, testing, deploying, and operating the Wide Area Network (WAN) backbone network, with a focus on automation and large-scale services to support Cloud & AI traffic loads. Responsibilities • Design and implement scalable, secure, and high‑performance network solutions for WAN and backbone infrastructure. Develop innovative solutions and prototype them in lab environments before production rollout. Document designs, processes, and operational playbooks • Design and onboard next generation routing platforms into production environments. Validate new devices, firmware, and configurations using automated test frameworks. • Build and maintain automation frameworks for network configuration, deployment, and monitoring. Implement telemetry and observability solutions for proactive issue detection. • Resolve live site issues by troubleshooting complex network components and features under time‑sensitive conditions. Lead critical customer‑facing troubleshooting efforts and drive root‑cause analysis for major incidents. Skills • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation. • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation. • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. • OR Equivalent experience. • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 8+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation. • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 6+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation. • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation. • OR Equivalent experience. • 5+ years of network engineering experience in large-scale environments (online services, ISPs, cloud providers, or enterprises), including production network design and live site operations. • 5+ years’ experience with routing protocols such as Intermediate System to Intermediate System (ISIS), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technologies. • 3+ years of experience with traffic engineering solutions such as Resource Reservation Protocol – Traffic Engineering (RSVP-TE) and Segment Routing (SR), including design and implementation in large-scale networks. • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP) certification.
