Optimum Sun LLC is a Virginia-based firm in the process of expanding its service offerings to include professional engineering services. We are committed to full compliance with the Virginia APELSCIDLA Board regulations and require a licensed Professional Engineer to serve as our Responsible Charge Engineer.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Virginia-licensed Professional Engineer (Electrical or closely related) to join our team on a part-time, remote, contract basis. There is a chance of conversion to full time contract on the long run if the applicant is interested.
This role will provide responsible charge, direct supervision, and personal oversight of all engineering services offered by our firm, in compliance with 18VAC10-20-740.
Responsibilities
• Serve as the designated Responsible Charge Engineer for the firm in Virginia.
• Review and approve all marketing materials, service descriptions, and proposals involving engineering services.
• Supervise and approve the scope, methodology, and deliverables of all engineering work.
• Affix PE seal and signature to final deliverables when required.
• Participate in monthly compliance meetings (remote).
• Ensure the firm maintains adherence to all Virginia licensing laws and standards of practice.
• Agree to include his/her name as the Principal Investigator in the proposed projects to clients.
Requirements
• Active Virginia Professional Engineer license in Electrical Engineering (in good standing). Otherwise, have the ability reactivate (or obtain) it within reasonable time.
• No experience requirements.
• Ability to provide oversight and supervision in a remote setting.
Compensation
• Monthly Retainer: Paid from the start of engagement to ensure continuous availability and compliance oversight.
• Hourly/Project Rate: Additional payment for billable project work, including design reviews, calculations, meetings, and stamping.
Work Arrangement
• Remote position, with periodic virtual meetings and document reviews.
• Flexible hours — availability during standard business hours for key approvals and compliance oversight is required.
• Minimal workload until projects are acquired, but continuous engagement from the start is expected for compliance.
