[Remote] Part-Time Contract Tax Specialist - Trusts & Gift Tax (CPA/EA)
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Uprise is a company dedicated to optimizing finances for small business owners through modern financial and tax support. They are seeking a CPA or EA with expertise in trust and estate taxation to prepare tax returns and provide advisory support year-round, contributing to the improvement of their services for clients with trust and estate tax needs.
Responsibilities
ā¢ Prepare fiduciary income tax returns (Form 1041) for irrevocable and revocable trusts of varying complexity, including grantor and non-grantor trusts
ā¢ Prepare gift tax returns (Form 709), including reporting for gifts to irrevocable trusts, split gifts, and generation-skipping transfer tax allocations
ā¢ Provide tax planning guidance and advisory support outside of filing season - helping clients and their advisors think ahead on topics like trust income distribution planning, DNI allocations, and gift tax annual exclusion and lifetime exemption strategies
ā¢ Coordinate with trustees, estate attorneys, and financial advisors to ensure accurate and timely reporting
ā¢ Maintain high standards for accuracy, responsiveness, and client trust
ā¢ Navigate complex fiduciary tax scenarios using your professional judgment, supported by Uprise tools, leadership, and peers
ā¢ Surface client patterns and insights to help improve our product and service delivery
Skills
ā¢ Active CPA or EA credential with a valid PTIN
ā¢ 3+ years of tax preparation experience with a focus on fiduciary and gift taxation (Form 1041, Form 709, Schedules K-1, trust accounting income, DNI calculations, GST tax allocations)
ā¢ Solid knowledge of trust accounting principles and the interplay between trust documents and tax reporting
ā¢ Proficiency with professional tax software and comfort working across multiple digital systems (Drake experience preferred)
ā¢ Strong communicator - able to simplify complex fiduciary tax concepts for clients and coordinate effectively with attorneys and trustees
ā¢ Comfortable working remotely with client portals, secure file sharing, e-sign tools, and video calls
ā¢ Available approximately 5ā10 hours/week to start, with volume expected to grow over time
ā¢ Familiarity with QSBS planning in the context of irrevocable trusts is a strong plus
