Remote Mortgage Underwriter FHA VA Position

Job Summary Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking a detail-oriented and experiencedRemote Mortgage Underwriter specializing in FHA and VA loans to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and approving mortgage loan applications in compliance with regulatory guidelines, company policies, and investor requirements. This is a fully remote role, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work with a highly professional and supportive team in the mortgage industry.Key Responsibilities • * Review and analyze loan applications, credit reports, income documents, and collateral to ensure compliance with FHA, VA, and investor requirements. • * Assess borrower eligibility by evaluating financial documents including W-2s, tax returns, pay stubs, and bank statements. • * Approve, suspend, or decline mortgage loan applications based on creditworthiness and lending guidelines. • * Collaborate with loan officers, processors, and other team members to ensure timely and accurate loan decisions.• * Maintain up-to-date knowledge of FHA, VA, and other lending regulations, as well as company underwriting policies. • * Meet daily productivity and quality standards while ensuring all decisions comply with regulatory requirements. • * Provide feedback to loan officers and processors on conditions required to finalize approvals. • * Ensure proper documentation of all underwriting decisions in the loan origination system. • Required Skills and Qualifications • * Strong knowledge of FHA and VA underwriting guidelines and mortgage lending regulations.• * Proficiency in loan origination systems (LOS) and underwriting software. • * Excellent analytical and decision-making skills with high attention to detail. • * Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a remote environment. • * Ability to manage multiple files and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • Experience • * Minimum 3 years of experience as a mortgage underwriter with direct FHA and VA underwriting exposure. • * DE (Direct Endorsement) and LAPP/SAR certifications highly preferred.• * Experience with remote work and digital mortgage processing is a plus. • Working Hours • * Flexible remote working schedule with availability to meet client and internal team timelines. • * Standard working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (CST), with occasional overtime as required. • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • * In-depth understanding of mortgage lending processes and federal regulations. • * Strong organizational skills and ability to handle high-volume workloads. • * Proficiency in bolthires Office Suite and mortgage loan systems.• * Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote environment. • Benefits • * Competitive salary with performance-based incentives. • * Completely remote work setup with flexible hours. • * Health, dental, and vision insurance options. • * Paid time off, sick leave, and holidays. • * Professional development and certification support to advance your career in mortgage underwriting. • Why Join At Houston Skilled Consultancy, we value our employees and foster a culture of excellence, integrity, and growth.Joining our team means being part of a company that prioritizes work-life balance, supports career progression, and recognizes your contribution in building the future of mortgage solutions.
