[Remote] Litigation Attorney (ID# 4973)

On Call Counsel is seeking contract attorneys to join a prestigious government agency addressing the backlog of special education claims in New York City. The role involves managing a high volume of cases, representing clients throughout the special education claims process, and ensuring compliance with education laws and regulations.ResponsibilitiesManage a high-volume caseload of 100–200 special education claims, ensuring timely and effective handlingPrepare for and/or litigate complex cases involving significant legal precedents, policy implications, or financial impactRepresent the agency in administrative hearings, pre-hearing conferences, and settlement negotiationsNavigate procedural requirements and ensure compliance with federal and state education laws and regulationsPrepare and review all necessary filings, agreements, and reports with accuracy and thoroughnessWork with parents, public advocacy groups, and opposing counsel to reach fair resolutions while negotiating claims for attorney’s feesCollaborate with special education specialists, technical experts, and attorneys; provide training to field staff and clinical staff on compliance with education lawsAnalyze case law, gather evidence, and evaluate settlement demandsProvide guidance on compliance obligations to parents and students under hearing ordersSkillsActive bar license in good standing in any U.S. stateMinimum of 1+ years of recent litigation experience (more preferred)Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to troubleshoot basic technical issuesProven ability to manage 100–200 cases concurrentlyAbility to log activities in 15-minute increments throughout the workdayDedicated workspace, reliable Wi-Fi, and comfort with virtual tools like Microsoft Teams and OutlookWillingness to accommodate early morning hearings and work within Eastern Time Zone hours (7 AM–7 PM)Administrative LawIEP/Special EducationExperience working for a government agencyPublic Interest workSettlement experienceCompany OverviewOn Call Counsel is a division of The TemPositions Group of Companies, one of the country’s largest privately owned full service staffing firms offering services to the New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and California markets.
