[Remote] Legal Secretary I

The role involves preparing legal documents, maintaining attorney calendars, and coordinating legal services.ResponsibilitiesDraft letters and legal documentsPrepare and assemble documents, including necessary transmittal forms and envelopes, in proper formatComplete typing and word processing assignments and documents of legal nature, including correspondence, pleadings, subpoenas, and related documentsPrepares documents for filing with CourtProduces quality written communication, corrects and edits documents to ensure final copy conveys proper format and is correct in detailPrepares Answers, Cross-Complaints, discovery and all pleadings as directed by the handling attorneyMaintains transcripts, documents and evidenceHandle files with minimal exposure and complexity; typical soft-tissue injury claims with no riskMaintains record of claims and legal documents and case activityWorks with attorney to assist in work flow processesCoordinates legal services such as court reporting, copying and delivery agenciesAssures all work is prepared and timely submitted without delayHas complete understanding of court deadlines, Rules of Court, requirements for processing documents and all office and court processesHandles routine correspondence and inquiries with attorneys, clients, adjusters, courts, etc. through written or telephone communications skillsCommunicates with claims, opposing counsel and clients regarding legal fileCarries out day to day activities in a logical and effective manner and completes work assignments promptlySchedules court reporters, expert witnesses and other experts for testimony at depositions and trialClassifies, sort and file correspondence, articles, records and other documentsOperates standard and/or automated office equipment such as word processors, typewriters, transcribing software, case management software, photocopies, etcMaintains attorney calendar by accurately recording court dates and appearances as directedSchedules meetings, depositions, and appointmentsAssembles documents, reports and information as requested to prepare for meetingsArranges necessary meeting spaces, secures conference rooms as neededInforms participants of meeting dates, times and locationResolves calendar conflicts by prioritizing and coordinates rescheduling dates as requestedTasks all deadlines in connection with appearancesTasks all deadlines in course and scope of daily job duties and upcoming assignmentsSchedules internal conferences related to legal filesUpdates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunitiesReads and understands professional publications regarding changes in Court rules and proceduresKeeps current regarding changes in Court procedures and policiesSkillsHigh School diploma or GEDBasic knowledge regarding terminology, discovery, pleadings, civil court deadlinesAbility to multitask and prioritize assignmentsOrganization skills with an eye for detailsAbility to follow directionsTyping minimum 60 wpmKnowledge of legal terminology and legal document management (e.g., briefs, summonses, complaints, motions, pleadings and discovery)Effective oral and written communication skills with knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation usageAbility to compose/draft routine pleadings and correspondenceAbility to utilize and process available resourcesDetail orientedAbility to accurately calendar and manage conflicts across multiple calendarsProficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and OutlookVocational certification or training in the legal fieldMinimum 1-2 years insurance defense or 1-2 years civil litigation experienceRelevant work experience in the legal field; equivalent combination of education and/or experience consideredKnowledge of federal and state court rules and e-filing proceduresFamiliarity with litigation management software systemsAbility to be flexible to adapt and act quickly when urgent matters require itTrial experienceBenefitsCompetitive compensationFlexibility to work from anywhere in the United States for most positionsPaid time off (vacation time, sick time, 9 paid Company holidays, volunteer hours)Incentive bonus programs (potential for holiday bonus, referral bonus, and performance-based bonus)Medical, dental, vision, life, and pet insurance401 (k) retirement savings plan with company matchEngaging work environmentPromotional opportunitiesEducation assistanceProfessional and personal development opportunitiesCompany recognition programHealth and wellbeing resources, including free mental wellbeing therapy/coaching sessions, child and eldercare resources, and moreCompany OverviewMercury Insurance has offered quality insurance for personal auto insurance to homeowners insurance to mechanical breakdown protection.
