[Remote] Information Experience Designer Intern

The Sunrise State is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Information Experience Designer Intern to join their data journalism team. The role involves applying skills in data visualization, data analysis, and visual design to create impactful data stories on European and global geopolitics. Responsibilities • Design and Create Visuals: Develop a range of daily and long-form data visualizations (charts, maps, infographics, interactive graphics) using tools like Adobe Illustrator to communicate complex information effectively. • Data Analysis and Sourcing: Assist in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data to identify key insights and ensure the accuracy of all visual reporting. • Contribute to Visual Strategy: Collaborate with the Data Visualisation Lead and editorial team to uphold and evolve the visual style guide, ensuring brand consistency and clarity across all platforms. • UX/UI for Information: Focus on the 'experience' of consuming information, designing for clarity, readability, and user engagement across web and social media. • Research and Exploration: Stay current on best practices in information design, data journalism, and emerging visualization technologies (e.g., D3.js, Cartography). Skills • A strong foundation in Data Visualization principles and best practices. • Proficiency in graphic design tools, particularly Adobe Illustrator. • Familiarity with Data Analysis and statistical concepts. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computational Social Sciences, Data Journalism, Graphic Design, Information Design, or a related field. • Demonstrated ability to take Leadership and initiative on projects, managing tasks from concept to final execution. • A portfolio showcasing relevant projects (e.g., data visualizations, infographics, design work). • Experience with or a willingness to learn programming/technical skills relevant to data visualization (e.g., Python, R, D3.js, HTML/CSS/JS) • A genuine interest in geopolitics, current European affairs, and data-driven storytelling Company Overview • News and Opinion pieces from Amaravati, India and the world It was founded in 2024, and is headquartered in , with a workforce of 11-50 employees.
