Remote Government Attorney
Description (Consulting) Municipal Policy, Protocol & Compliance Advisory A municipality is seeking a seasoned government attorney to provide limited, project-based consulting services focused on establishing, refining, and documenting internal protocols, policies, and procedures. This role is advisory in nature and designed for an attorney who understands how government actually functions — including how to move initiatives forward within layered approval structures and strict compliance frameworks. Scope of Engagement The consulting attorney will partner with senior municipal stakeholders to: • Assess existing policies, workflows, and operational gaps • Develop clear, compliant protocols aligned with applicable statutes, regulations, and agency standards • Advise on governance, internal controls, and risk mitigation • Translate legal requirements into practical, implementable procedures • Navigate administrative and inter-agency processes to facilitate adoption and approval • Support documentation, training materials, and rollout guidance as needed Qualifications • 10+ years of legal experience, with significant time in government, municipal, or public-sector roles • Deep familiarity with municipal operations, regulatory compliance, and administrative law • Demonstrated ability to work within bureaucratic systems and advance initiatives despite institutional constraints • Strong judgment and discretion when advising senior leadership • Experience drafting policies, procedures, and internal governance frameworks • Ability to operate independently and deliver concise, high-quality work product Engagement Details • Consulting / contract role (limited duration or scoped project) • Flexible schedule; remote or hybrid depending on municipality • Competitive hourly or project-based compensation, commensurate with experience Ideal Candidate Profile This role is well-suited for a former senior municipal attorney, agency counsel, or government legal advisor who brings credibility, pragmatism, and a solutions-oriented approach — someone who understands both what compliance requires and how municipalities realistically get things done.
