As a Field Service Engineer I, you will support the installation, maintenance, and repair of sophisticated analytical and microscopy equipment while developing technical expertise and building customer relationships.ResponsibilitiesAssist with on-site installation, repair, testing, and maintenance of electron microscopy systems, including:Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM)Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM)Focused Ion Beam (FIB) systemsPerform scheduled preventive maintenance to ensure systems operate according to specificationsTroubleshoot and diagnose system issues with guidance from senior engineers when requiredSupport senior field service engineers with complex repairs and system calibrationsDevelop positive working relationships with customers, system users, and internal teamsTravel to customer sites, sometimes on short notice, to provide technical support and serviceDocument service activities and submit detailed field service reportsProvide basic customer training on system operation and routine maintenanceFollow safety procedures and quality standards when servicing equipment in laboratory environmentsProvide feedback to product quality and engineering teams regarding system performanceMaintain accurate service documentation and support updates to technical service materialsSkillsBachelor's degree in Electronics, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related technical field or 4+ years of equivalent education and experience in electronic systems1+ years of hands-on technical experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating sophisticated analytical equipment such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systemsValid driver's license requiredAbility to travel up to 75% within assigned territoryPhysical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in laboratory environmentsProficiency in English required, additional languages beneficialStrong electronics and mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues to the component levelAbility to read and interpret technical documentation and electrical schematicsStrong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently after trainingExcellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbalStrong organizational and time management capabilitiesProficiency with Microsoft Office and service management softwareExperience documenting service activities and preparing detailed reportsAbility to effectively train and support customers on equipment operationDemonstrated commitment to safety protocols and quality standardsAbility to respond to customer needs with short noticeDemonstrated success contributing to customer satisfaction goalsExperience working with ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems and high voltage equipment preferredBenefitsA choice of national medical and dental plans, and a national vision plan, including health incentive programsEmployee assistance and family support programs, including commuter benefits and tuition reimbursementAt least 120 hours paid time off (PTO), 10 paid holidays annually, paid parental leave (3 weeks for bonding and 8 weeks for caregiver leave), accident and life insurance, and short- and long-term disability in accordance with company policyRetirement and savings programs, such as our competitive 401(k) U.S. retirement savings planEmployees’ Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) offers eligible colleagues the opportunity to purchase company stock at a discountCompany OverviewThermo Fisher Scientific is a biotechnology and laboratory equipment company that provides a wide range of scientific products and services.
