[Remote] Editorial Assistant

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking an Editorial Assistant to provide administrative support for the processing and peer review of manuscript submissions. The role involves coordinating peer review processes, maintaining communication with authors and reviewers, and performing various clerical tasks.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for overseeing all aspects of peer review coordination from submission to transmittal for research articles (Direct Submission and Brief Reports)Complete quality control checks for incoming research articlesCorrespond with authors, editors, and reviewers about needed items, deadline extensions, pending submissions, and status inquiriesNotify authors of manuscript decisionsScreen revisions for plagiarism and escalate to editorial ethics manager as neededMonitor updates to the online submission systems and ensure requisite changes are made to the Information for AuthorsMerge or update reviewer records with current information to maintain an up-to-date database/reviewer poolTransmits manuscripts to production vendorAct as the point of contact for production queries received from the production vendorContribute input for enhancements to the submission systemPerform a variety of clerical and administrative tasks such as answering general queries sent to the editorial inbox and answering the telephoneSpecial projects and additional tasks as assignedSkillsHigh School Diploma, GED, or equivalent knowledgeOne year of related experienceAbility to compose clear and professional communications with various stakeholdersExcellent communication skills with a proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees and external stakeholdersAbility to work successfully in a team environmentAbility to develop relationships with co-workers and employees in other National Academies' departments through effective communicationAbility to solve problems with supervisory consultation and by following rules, procedures, and precedentsDemonstrated concern for excellence in quality of work and the experiences of stakeholders involvedAbility to handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion and exercise sound professional judgmentExperience working in complex environments with a high degree of organizational effectivenessAbility to operate effectively in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, manage competing priorities, and maintain organizational alignmentAbility to work at a computer for extended periods of timeBenefitsMedical, dental and vision insuranceLife insuranceDisability coverageRetirement and savings benefitsLeave benefits such as paid holidays and paid personal leaveTransportation subsidiesEducation assistanceCompany OverviewThe National Academies provide independent, trustworthy advice and facilitate solutions to complex challenges by mobilizing expertise, practice, and knowledge in science, engineering, and medicine.
