[Remote] Director of HR & People Ops Services (Remote - Client Facing)

Atomus Partners is a women-led, fully remote fractional HR and Finance firm that helps growing companies build strong, scalable people and operational foundations. The Director of HR Services is responsible for both strategic HR client delivery and leading the internal HR function, focusing on client-facing HR work and leadership development.
Responsibilities
ā¢ Serve as a senior HR advisor to select clients, particularly those in: Startup, scale-up, PE/VC-backed, or transformation stages
ā¢ Lead complex HR initiatives across: Compliance and risk management, Benefits strategy, Talent management and performance frameworks, HR systems and automation, Organizational planning and change, Employee relations and sensitive issues
ā¢ Conduct HR audits and deliver actionable recommendations
ā¢ Support executive teams with practical, business-aligned HR strategy
ā¢ Lead, mentor, and grow our HR team
ā¢ Own training and ramp-up for new HR teammates
ā¢ Establish and continuously improve internal HR service delivery processes
ā¢ Oversee client onboarding, ensuring consistency, quality, and strong first impressions
ā¢ Coach HR Managers on: HR competencies, Prioritization and workload management, Executive presence and communication
ā¢ Partner with leadership to identify gaps, develop talent, and scale the team thoughtfully
ā¢ Ensure consistent, high-quality HR delivery across all client accounts
Skills
ā¢ 8ā10+ years of progressive HR experience, with clear leadership responsibility
ā¢ Proven experience in: Startups, scale-ups, and/or PE/VC-backed companies
ā¢ High-growth or evolving environments
ā¢ Strong people leader with a track record of mentoring and developing HR talent
ā¢ Comfortable balancing strategy and execution
ā¢ Highly organized, decisive, and able to lead through ambiguity
ā¢ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
ā¢ Deep knowledge of: Employment law and compliance (multi-state required; CA experience strongly preferred)
ā¢ Compensation and benefits strategy
ā¢ Organizational design and workforce planning
ā¢ Employee relations and investigations
ā¢ Strong understanding of HR systems and process automation
