As a Database Curator, you will be responsible for collecting, entering, and maintaining information on human services for the 211 British Columbia community information database, ensuring its accuracy and accessibility for the Helpline Services department. Responsibilities Maintain the 211 British Columbia community services information databases by: Identifying resources that require updating Connecting with the appropriate contact person for each resource Requesting relevant and up-to-date information by telephone &/or electronically Abstracting information from relevant print and electronic sources Creating and updating resource records in the database through data entry Making new and updated information available to United Way BC 211 staff Assist with the production of all publications at United Way BC 211, which includes the Directory of Services for the British Columbia, by preparing, copy editing, and proofreading Participate in the development and implementation of an indexing system for human services Remain informed about community services in Metro Vancouver and throughout British Columbia Represent United Way BC on committees, meetings, or promotional undertakings as assigned Attend and participate in staff meetings and events, and workshops hosted by United Way BC as required Contribute to the preparation of reports, proposals, correspondence, statistics, and documentation of resources and publications procedures Attain and maintain InformUSA certification Perform other duties as required Skills At least 1 year of recent experience with data entry, records maintenance, and other related activities Solid understanding of community services across BC Ability to provide detailed research and information summaries Identifying resources that require updating Excellent organization and time management skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Keyboarding 45 words per minute Excellent grammar skills Ability to research, summarize, and organize information, giving exact attention to detail Knowledge of community services in British Columbia Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure, and to meet deadlines Ability to work under supervision and independently, and to work co-operatively Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and community agencies Competent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Office Minimum 2-year diploma in library and information studies, human services, or equivalent combination of training/experience/education Minimum one year of recent experience with data entry, maintaining records, etc Attain and maintain InformUSA certification InformUSA certification is an asset Publishing and proofreading experience an asset Remote working experience is an asset Company Overview Working with communities in BC’s Interior, Lower Mainland and Central & Northern Vancouver Island.
