[Remote] Controller/Sr. Accountant - Clinical Research

They are seeking a highly experienced financial Controller to lead and execute their financial operations, managing both strategic and tactical aspects of accounting while ensuring compliance with regulations. Responsibilities • Direct and execute all accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. • Lead and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP. • Lead the technical accounting function for revenue recognition (ASC 606), establishing policies, reviewing complex contracts, and ensuring compliance. • Serve as the lead technical accounting expert, researching and documenting complex accounting issues specific to the clinical research and life sciences industries. • Oversee all domestic and international tax matters, including income, sales, use, VAT, and withholding taxes, managing external tax advisors as needed. • Coordinate and manage the annual external financial audit, acting as the primary point of contact and ensuring efficient completion. • Lead and manage engagements with accounting consultants for specialized projects (e.g., system implementations, technical accounting white papers). • Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data. • Support cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. • Partner with leadership to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making. • Oversee the continuous improvement of accounting systems and processes to drive efficiency and scalability. Skills • 10+ years of increasing responsibility in finance and accounting, specifically within the clinical research industry (CRO, Biotech, Pharma, Clinical Imaging, etc.) • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required. • Working knowledge of ASC 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers) and its complex application within clinical trial contracts is mandatory. • Proven experience managing relationships and engagements with external audit firms and accounting consultancies on technical and operational matters. • Demonstrated experience managing domestic and international tax compliance and reporting for a global organization. • Demonstrated ability to be an extremely hands-on professional, comfortable owning the monthly closing process from start to finish. • Deep, technical knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and a strong background preparing for and managing external audits. • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required. • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex financial information to all stakeholders. • Master's degree is a plus. • Expert-level proficiency within NetSuite will be helpful, but not mandatory.
