[Remote] Cloud Engineer (SRE)
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. They are seeking a Cloud Engineer to maintain and optimize cloud infrastructure, ensuring the reliability and performance of their cloud platforms to support ministry-critical workloads.
Responsibilities
ā¢ Build, maintain, and optimize cloud infrastructure platform services that support the deployment and operation of ministry-critical workloads in our private cloud platform
ā¢ Utilize various Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to assist in optimizing engineering builds
ā¢ Provision and automate secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD tools to support development and production environments
ā¢ Monitor applications and infrastructure performance and respond to incidents as part of an on-call rotation, supporting root cause analysis and long-term remediation
ā¢ Contribute to internal tooling and documentation to improve team productivity, technical consistency, and system knowledge-sharing
ā¢ Assist in evaluating cost implications and supporting optimization efforts for cloud resource usage; coordinate implementation efforts across stakeholders and vendors as needed
ā¢ Assist in the evaluation and adoption of emerging cloud technologies, advocating for improvements in resilience, cost, and maintainability
ā¢ Actively participate in team ceremonies, including stand-ups, retrospectives, and planning meetings, fostering continuous improvement and shared accountability
ā¢ All other duties as assigned
Skills
ā¢ Bachelor's degree or university program certificate in a related field, plus five (5) to seven (7) years of Cloud Engineering experience, or seven (7) or more years of related experience
ā¢ Proven SRE or DevOps experience with a focus on reliability, automation, and production operations
ā¢ Extensive experience with observability systems, building and maintaining production stacks such as Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, Datadog, or Dynatrace
ā¢ Extensive GitOps experience with tools like ArgoCD or Flux, including management of self-hosted Git platforms such as Gitea or GitLab
ā¢ Hands-on experience running Kubernetes in production, strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, and comfort with open-source, on-premise environments; OpenStack experience is a plus
ā¢ 12 credit hours of college-level Biblical Studies (required); if not already completed, opportunity to meet and complete requirement is available upon hire
ā¢ Fluency in English (required)
