[Remote] AI/Prompt Engineer – Intern/Entry Level

The AI/Prompt Engineer Intern or Entry-Level Engineer will join the Engineering and Technology team to help build an AI-first SMB ERP system, gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge AI technologies while contributing to innovative solutions. Responsibilities • Contribute to designing and developing AI-powered ERP components (financial management, project tracking, invoice generation) using Java and PostgreSQL • Learn and apply prompt engineering strategies to enhance ERP modules with natural language interfaces • Build and integrate machine learning models for ERP use cases like data classification, predictions, and intelligent automation • Create APIs connecting digital assistant services with core ERP business logic • Test and validate AI-enhanced features including model accuracy, prompt effectiveness, and system integration • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on delivering AI-powered ERP features and participate in code reviews Skills • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, or related technical field (or currently pursuing) • 0-1 years of experience in software development, AI/ML, or related technical roles • Strong academic projects or coursework in AI/ML, programming, or software development • Solid foundation in Java and/or Python with willingness to learn • Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL experience a plus) • Experience or strong interest in working with large language models (GPT, Claude, LLaMA) and developing effective prompts • Coursework or project experience with basic machine learning concepts and frameworks • Familiarity with Git, IDEs, and basic software development practices • Eagerness to learn new technologies and frameworks • Strong interest in prompt engineering techniques and conversational AI systems • Understanding of how to craft effective prompts for business contexts • Curiosity about natural language processing and how AI enhances user experiences • Basic awareness of AI ethics and prompt safety considerations • Comfortable with rapid AI tool evolution • Eager to experiment with new AI capabilities for prompt engineering and ERP optimization • Committed to sharing AI-enhanced approaches with the team • Ability to apply prompt engineering to solve real-world ERP business problems • See AI as a productivity multiplier for strategic development decisions, rather than a replacement for human expertise • Internship experience in software development or AI/ML preferred but not required Benefits • Healthcare benefits • A 401(k) plan and company match • Paid vacation time and holidays • Well-living programs • Short-term and long-term disability coverage • Basic life insurance • Tuition reimbursement Company Overview • Deltek is an enterprise software and information solutions provider for professional services firms and government contractors.It was founded in 1983, and is headquartered in Herndon, Virginia, USA, with a workforce of 1001-5000 employees.
