Regional Veterans Outreach Officer (Northeast)

Our Veterans’ Outreach programme extends that sense of comradeship beyond our walls, helping older veterans across the UK feel less isolated and more connected to others who understand their experiences.

We are now entering an exciting period of growth and are looking for a Regional Veterans’ Outreach Officer to help develop and deliver our Chelsea Pensioners Veterans’ Outreach programme across the Northeast of England. This role is ideal for someone who is people‑centred, motivated by social impact and confident working independently while contributing to a wider, mission‑driven team.

In this role, you will spend much of your time building meaningful relationships with older veterans, particularly those who may be harder to reach. You will proactively seek out opportunities to connect with local veteran networks, community groups and partner organisations, creating welcoming routes into social activity, peer support and the Old Comrades digital community. You will work closely with volunteers and partners, supporting their contribution and ensuring activities are delivered with warmth, respect and quality.

You will be comfortable taking initiative, using insight and data to understand what works and why. Monitoring engagement, evaluating activities and capturing impact will be a core part of your work, helping shape a sustainable regional outreach model and informing future development and fundraising. You will also contribute a regional voice to our digital outreach as a moderator of the Old Comrades App.

We are looking for someone who communicates with empathy, listens carefully and responds with care. You will be organised and self‑motivated, able to manage relationships, volunteers and priorities while staying aligned with safeguarding, data protection, and good practice. You do not need to be ex‑forces, but you do need an appreciation of the experiences of older veterans and a genuine commitment to improving wellbeing and reducing loneliness.

This is a part‑time role, working 20 hours per week, with some flexibility and occasional out‑of‑hours activity. You will be based in the Northeast and will need a full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle, as travel across the region is essential. Mileage is reimbursed for work‑related travel, and there will be occasional travel to London for events or meetings.
