What We Look For In a REGENTS Tutor
• Advanced Test Mastery: Deep knowledge of New York State Regents examination content across multiple subjects including Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Living Environment, Earth Science, Chemistry, Physics, English Language Arts, US History, and Global History. Ability to explain exam-specific scoring rubrics, constructed response requirements, and the sixty-five point passing threshold while preparing students for graduation and advanced diploma requirements.
• Strategic Test-Taking & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching subject-specific Regents strategies including reference table usage, constructed response formatting, and multiple-choice elimination techniques. Guides students through interpreting Regents-style data tables, writing document-based essays, solving laboratory-based questions, and managing time across exam parts. Emphasizes rubric-aligned response construction and targeted review of high-frequency tested concepts.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with New York State Regents curricula and common challenges such as meeting constructed response requirements, interpreting reference tables, and bridging content gaps from earlier grade levels. Adapts instruction using past Regents examinations, scoring rubric analysis, and targeted content review to support high school students seeking passing or mastery-level scores for graduation and college readiness.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
