Some of our projects may have an occasional need to travel, ~1 to 2 times a year.About the roleYou will be joining the Department of State Division of Consular Affairs team as a QA/Accessibility Test Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to help modernize how passports get delivered to millions of Americans. You'll play a critical role in ensuring that these vital services are accessible to all citizens, regardless of their abilities.What you’ll do:Conduct comprehensive accessibility testing to ensure 508 and WCAG 2.2 complianceCreate and execute test plans for web-based applicationsPerform manual and automated testing across multiple browsers and assistive technologiesAbility to create clear bug reports with reproducible stepsWrite and maintain automated test scripts using Playwright or similar frameworksDocument accessibility issues and work with developers to ensure proper remediationReview user interfaces for accessibility best practices during the design phaseCreate and maintain accessibility testing documentation and guidelinesParticipate in code reviews from an accessibility perspectiveTrain team members on accessibility testing best practicesCollaborate with designers and developers to build accessibility into the development processAttend team meetings (sprint planning, standup, retrospectives)Requirements Need-to-have 3+ years of experience testing web-based applicationsStrong familiarity with Section 508 and WCAG 2.2 compliance standardsExperience with screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) and other assistive technologiesExperience with accessibility testing tools (axe DevTools, WAVE, Pa11y, etc.)Understanding of ARIA attributes and semantic HTMLStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExperience working within cross-functional teamsLived in the US for 3 out of the last 5 yearsNice-to-have Experience with Playwright or similar test automation frameworksKnowledge of AccelQ or other no-code testing platformsExperience with Selenium, Cypress, or other automation toolsIAAP certification (CPACC, WAS, or CPWA)Experience working in the civic tech spaceExperience with government systems or passport/visa processingBasic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScriptExperience with API testingFamiliarity with Agile/Scrum methodologiesThank you for taking the time to consider this role.
