I am seeking a talented and detail-oriented freelance editor or beta reader to perform proofreading and copy editing for fiction stories within the thriller, mystery, and suspense genres. The ideal person for this role will: Provide Constructive Feedback: Go beyond basic corrections to offer feedback that strengthens the story. Be Reliable and Timely: Excel at meeting deadlines and performing high-quality work in a short amount of time. Understand the Audience: Pay close attention to the intended audience and evaluate if the stories effectively align with genre expectations. Perform In-Depth Manuscript Analysis: Read manuscripts in detail to highlight and address areas that are repetitive, confusing, or out of context. Communicate Effectively: Possess great communication skills and respond promptly to questions or concerns. Required Skills and Experience: Proven experience in copy editing and proofreading, preferably with fiction. Expert knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, specifically using the "Track Changes" feature. Compensation: This is a remote, project-based role. The fixed rate is $0.003 per word for a combined copy editing and proofreading pass on each book. Consistent and reliable work will be provided for those interested in a long-term professional relationship.
