Power System Modeling Engineer
ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. The Power System Modeling Engineer will develop and verify study models for use by various teams, manage generation and transmission projects, and support software development for modeling activities.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and verify study models based on user specified input and project selection for use by TOs/GOs, various ISO-NE teams and regional/inter-regional usersTechnical gate-keeping and change management function for control of the network model basecase including checking-in and verifying project files as submitted by ISO-NE staff, Transmission Owners (TO) and Generator Owners (GO)Develop, organize and manage generation and transmission expansion projects utilizing enterprise modeling & model management softwareConduct periodic update to ISO-NE basecase with new/modified in-service equipment, project withdrawal/retirements, and operating characteristicsSupport and serve on internal and external regional and national committees, task forces and working groups as requiredWork with regional and national PCs in development of annual library casesInterface and communicate with PSMM and Operations staff for coordination of modeling requirement in the ISO-NE Energy Management System and Market Application systemDevelop and maintain work instructions, process and procedures for modeling power flow, stability, short circuit and GIC/GMD characteristicsPerform periodic and yearly review of ISO Business ProcessDevelop, support and maintain auxiliary software required to support modeling activities of the MAS team working with the IT SDLC processWork with software vendors to develop, test and manage versions of modeling software for use by ISO-NE and its TOs.
