Police Communications Call Taker
About the position
The Police Communications Call Taker is responsible for answering non-emergency and 911 emergency calls to assist residents in obtaining emergency services. This role involves operating telephone equipment and computer terminals within the Police Department, primarily in an office environment. The position requires the ability to maintain calm during emergencies and support 911 operations during various crises.
Responsibilities
ā¢ Answers the 911 universal emergency telephone number in the Police Department.

ā¢ Determines the nature of the emergency, enters necessary information into the computer system, and routes the data to the Police Dispatchers.

ā¢ Routes emergency telephone calls to the proper governmental agency.

ā¢ Assists Police Officers in obtaining services.

ā¢ Determines classification of service request and jurisdiction.
,
ā¢ Maintains a calm response to all emergency situations.
,
ā¢ Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Requirements
ā¢ High school diploma or GED equivalent.
,
ā¢ One year of experience in public contact either in person or by telephone.
,
ā¢ Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
,
ā¢ Must obtain TCLOSE Telecommunicator Certification within one (1) year of employment.
,
ā¢ Must obtain TCIC/NCIC, Full Access Certification within six (6) months of employment.
,
ā¢ Must meet the minimum requirements established by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement for Telecommunicators.
Nice-to-haves
ā¢ One (1) year experience as an Emergency Services Dispatcher and/or 911 Call Taker.

ā¢ Ability to pass the online TEEX State Telecommunicator Licensing Course within the first year of employment.

ā¢ Ability to type 35 words per minute.
