Job description: Overview

The Peer Review Intern position provides administrative, analytical, and publishing support to Peer Review staff in the Global Peer Review Team. We are looking for a candidate who is eager to learn about and grow within the academic publishing industry, and is able to quickly pick up new information, think critically and creatively, and engage meaningfully with the daily work. Training will be provided for all the processes listed and there is no prior publishing experience required.

This is a paid, part time internship (15-25 hours per week during normal office hours) for 3 months, with the potential to extend to up to 6-12 months. It is a remote position that will require you to have an internet connection. Must be an active graduate or undergraduate student, currently enrolled in a college or university.

**Please note that this position does not focus on writing or editing of our content, as it primarily supports the business, technical, and administrative aspects of journal publishing.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

A sample work week may look something like:

5-7 hours managing the progress of journal article submissions using online peer review systems
5-7 hours a week supporting journal inboxes (e.g. responding to author and reviewer queries)
2-3 hours a week of instructional learning (i.e., training, learning & development classes, or individual mentor coaching) and staff shadowing
2-3 hours a week working on projects related to peer review support processes and publication ethic
1-2 hours supporting the peer review systems team on manuscript submission site configuration work
1-2 hours of Lean behavior and process
Qualifications & Education

Required

Must be active graduate or undergraduate student, currently enrolled in a college or university
Demonstrated excellent English verbal and written communication skills
Outstanding organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
A dedication to amplifying diversity, equity, and inclusion
Strong attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to follow directions, learn, and understand departmental procedures
Ability to effectively manage time to meet deadlines and work professionally under pressure
Ability to be a self-starter and work in a remote environment
Ability to learn new software
Ability to complete and follow through on priorities
Ability to effectively multi-task
Preferred

Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, OneNote, Teams, and PowerPoint
Some publishing or general office experience
A basic understanding of how peer review is conducted

Compensation at Sage is influenced by several factors, including but not limited to skill set, nature and level of experience, qualifications, and other relevant considerations. We anticipate the minimum full-time hourly pay rate for this role is $16.00.
